Tips and TriviaTIPS! Cleaning Brass
Instruments Simply remove all slides and pistons from the horn. Next, place a towel in your bath tub and gently set the horn with its parts on it. The towel will help to keep scratches from appearing allowing your horn to always have that new look. Next, plug the drain and turn on the water. Make sure the water is warm not hot. Put some non-abrasive dish washing soap in the tub as you fill it. Let soak overnight. This will loosen any debris inside the horn. Now rinse thoroughly, again with warm not hot water. Wipe your horn off with a flannel cloth not terry cloth which could add small scratches to the finish. Now you are ready to assemble your horn. Make sure to use good oil and slide grease. For oil, we highly recommend Pro-Oil Hybrid. You can purchase a bottle from us for $6.00 which includes shipping. Give us a call. For grease we recommend anhydrous lanolin. You can get this at any pharmacy. With proper care using the above methods and products your instrument should last you a lifetime.
TRIVIA Ever wonder what
Doc Severinson and Miles Davis have in common besides playing the
trumpet? For all you old timers (and young ones too) did you know that the brass section sound that you heard in the "I Love Lucy" nightclub scenes was in fact contributed largely by Claude Gordon? He was the first chair trumpet player for CBS and was behind the scenes for not only the I Love Lucy Show, but also the Our Miss Brooks show. It was the Wilbur Hatch Orchestra behind the set.
